posted on 25.04.10 Top 10 for the week of April 25, 2010

I’ve noticed recently that everyone seems to be using the phrase “Chillwave”. What exactly is Chillwave? Now apparently this was originally coined by Carles, creator of the blog, Hipster Runoff. It is characterized by heavy use of effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines.* Neon Indian, Washed Out, Small Black, & Ducktails all being associated with this phrase. I must say in my opinion, Chillwave is like going on the Matterhorn at a carnival. It’s a great ride & gets you excited, but you know it’s bound to make your stomach turn. Some of the bands listed under this genre I simply cannot stand. They are trying to accomplish too much in one song. Others such as Neon Indian, have a certain amazingness to them that I find enticing.  Here is my list of my top 10 Chillwave songs so far.

10. Veto - You Say Yes, I Say Yes

9. Gold Panda - Quitters Raga

8. Sun Araw - Horse Steppin’

7. Memory Cassette - Asleep at a Party

6. Real Estate - Pool Swimmers

5. Bear In Heaven - Lovesick Teenagers

4. Neon Indian - Deadbeat Summer

3. Toro Y Moi - Blessa

2. Washed Out - New Theory

1. Neon Indian - Should Have Taken Acid With You

no top 10 this week, too busy with housework & hockey. Sorry one person who looks at this.

posted on 18.02.10 To elaborate on my top music

When I post my Top “_” songs for the week, it’s just how I am feeling for that week, moment, whatever. It has nothing to do with what others seem to think is the best song ever, what has topped the charts this week, etc. Just a reflection of my own tastes. I hope you enjoy at least one song on it because then, I know it was worth it.

I’d like to thank Jeff for this grand idea. I will attempt to showcase what I am loving at the current minute, week, month.

Hopefully this blog will bring a smile to your face, for the two or three followers I may have.

That is all I have to start with (what an introduction, I know).

~Thanks!
